How to wire a GPS to my motorcycle?

I have a garmin GPS with all factory parts, I would like to bare-wire the 12-v cigarrette main power cable and connect it to my motorcycle, I think there are 4 wires within the 12v cable, how do I attach them? i would preferably attach them to the motorcycles running light cable so it wil not drain the battery when the bike is off. will this work or is there too much power for the stock running light cable? attaching a 12v female cigarette is an option but I would rather hardwire the 12v male wite that comes with every GPS.

You didn't mention which model you have. I have a 2820 Street Pilot which comes with the cigarette litter adapter with a speaker in it for the voice prompts. I'm assuming that's what you are talking about. It should have four wires, 2 for the speaker and 2 for power/ground. I would recommend hooking it directly to the accessory block on the bike so when you turn off the ignition the GPS will power off as well. You also have the fuse for accessories that will protect it. If you power it through the lights or splice it in somewhere else you may be taking the risk of a surge to it.
