How your Car Lights Work
When it comes to your car lights do you know how they work? When it comes to turn signals and brake lights it’s important that you know how each light functions. When the power goes out, it flows from your battery, to the steering column, and it enters the turn signal switch. This switch includes 3 positions, off, left, or right. When it’s on the left or right, the electricity flows through the thermal flasher that is in the front and rear turn indicator bulbs. The dashboard shows turn signal indicator lights. This thermal flasher is basically the heart of your turn signal. The process used to turn the light on and off has not changed in decades.
Right next to an electrical contact, a piece of the thermal flasher has a piece of slightly bent spring steel. The entirety of this is surrounded by a coil of resistor wire. At initial force, the spring steel does not touch the electric contact. When the light is off, all the power goes through this resistor wide and it causes the heat to rise. As it heats up, the steel is heated up causing the spring steel to touch the contact. When this happens the electricity goes directly through the spring steel into the contact and powers the signal lights. The resistor wide cools down, causing the steel to cool and bend once again. It now travels away from the contact, turning the power off and beginning the entire process again.
Recent innovators have developed LED’s for signal lights and headlights on cars. LED bulbs last longer, use less energy, and tend to stay very cool. They’re less damageable by water as incandescent lights are easily destroyed when coming in contact with water. Another innovation of recent years is the addition of turn signals on the side mirrors. This makes it a lot easier for drivers on the side of a vehicle to know if someone is turning or changing lanes.

Where can I get an indicator light for a Suzuki Alto?
It's a 1997 model. The area which holds the bulb for the indicator light has completely rusted away so I need to replace this section. I'm waiting for Suzuki to get back to me, can anyone help?
